Rutgers LB Greene injures ankle

Rutgers linebacker Khaseem Greene injured his ankle in the team's 27-13 victory over Iowa State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl on Friday, and had to be carted off the field with an air cast on. Though the injury looked pretty gruesome on television, coach Greg Schiano said afterward that "our medical people think he's going to be OK. It's going to take a little while to heal." Schiano did not detail the extent of the injury, but added, "One of the things we are going to do with Khaseem this spring, anyway, was kind of cut back on what he was going to do in spring football and all that.

Walker's AFC East picks

Welcome to the final edition of "Walker's AFC East picks." We will stop our solid run predicting games in the division since most likely there only will be one team — the New England Patriots — in the playoffs. The Patriots will have a first-round bye, which means there will be no games in the AFC East next week. Here are our picks for Week 17 in the division: Buffalo Bills (6-9) at New England Patriots (12-3), Sunday at 1 p.m. ET Skinny: New England has too much to play for and revenge on its mind after losing the first meeting.

Morning take: Tomlinson's last game?

Here are the most interesting stories Friday morning in the AFC East: New York Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson said Sunday could also be the last game of his Hall of Fame career. Morning take: The Jets-Dolphins game could be the end for two Hall of Famers -- Tomlinson and Jason Taylor. Tomlinson says he would come back next year in the right situation if he can win a championship. New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is emerging as a head-coaching candidate.

Halftime: Notre Dame 7, FSU 0

ORLANDO, Fla. — Notre Dame's offense was actually in position to score twice, which gives it the slight edge over Florida State's attack right now. Fittingly, a defensive touchdown has been the difference through 30 minutes so far. Turning point: Manti Te'o hit Devonta Freeman, forcing the ball loose. Zeke Motta scooped it up and went 29 yards untouched for the only score of the game, giving Notre Dame a 7-0 lead. The play was all the more significant after the Irish gave away their chance earlier, as Tommy Rees threw an interception into the end zone on first-and-goal from the 4.

Delany discusses partnership with Pac-12

I had a chance to speak with Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany earlier this afternoon about the league's new scheduling and branding partnership with the Pac-12 Conference, set to begin in 2017 for football. Here are some of the topics we discussed: CONFERENCE SCHEDULES The scheduling partnership means the Big Ten won't be moving from eight conference games to nine beginning in the 2017 season. The league had announced the increase in August. "If it's not off the board, it's coming off the board," Delany said.

New England tied with the San Francisco 49ers with the most players to make the Pro Bowl. As expected, New England's offense led the way with five players. Quarterback Tom Brady, receiver Wes Welker and tight end Rob Gronkowski were all deserving skill players. Here are three keys for the NC State heading into the Belk Bowl matchup against Louisvilee: 1. Win the field position battle. Louisville is No. 2 in the country in punt return yardage defense, and opponents have returned 12 punts for a total of five net yards in 12 games. NC State’s defense has the ability to create a short field with turnovers, but it also has one of the nation’s top punt returners in T.J. Graham. Seven-step drop: What's next for Jets?

Here are seven notes and observations after Week 16 in the AFC East: New York Jets coach Rex Ryan will not be on the hot seat. I already hear grumblings coming from Jets Nation, but it's not going to happen. Ryan is too good a coach. He led the Jets to back-to-back AFC title games in his first two years. Instant analysis: S. Miss 24, Nevada 17

No. 21 Southern Miss beat Nevada 24-17 in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on Saturday night. Here is a quick breakdown of how it happened: How the game was won: One definitive drive. Incredibly, two of the most potent offenses in the nation slogged through most of this game. Special teams were a mess on both sides -- Nevada had a punt blocked and lost a fumble on a kickoff; Southern Miss lost fumbles on a kickoff and a punt return. Midway through the fourth quarter, each team had more punts than first downs.

The Big 12's big surprises, Part II

We took a look on Thursday at the first few big surprises in the Big 12, and it's time for a few more before we decide the big one. 1. Oklahoma won't finish in the Big 12's top three. The Sooners entered the season as the preseason No. 1 and earned 41 of 43 first-place votes in the Big 12. This was supposed to be the big year for Oklahoma, but upsets and injuries dropped it to 9-3 and a fourth-place finish in the Big 12, via a loss to Baylor that gave the Bears the tiebreaker.

Dantonio hopes to keep staff, reward staff

Mark Dantonio has lost only two assistants during his tenure at Michigan State, and both men -- Dan Enos and Don Treadwell -- left for head-coaching positions elsewhere. Like several Big Ten programs, Michigan State ties its recent success to continuity on the coaching staff. Dantonio would like to keep it that way heading into 2012. "I hope so," Dantonio told ESPN.com on Friday. "You never know how things change as you go through January, but our staff has been a big part of our success here.
