Cowboys will try to engage Bryant

The Cowboys will do what they can to continue to teach WR Dez Bryant and keep him involved even while he is on injured reserve. League rules prohibit him from attending team positional meetings, but head coach Jason Garrett said repeatedly he wanted to keep Bryant “engaged” in the process of being a professional, especially in terms of his rehab for a broken ankle. The timetable should allow Bryant to return to action sometime in the spring. The team did a good job of preparing Bryant despite the fact that he missed the majority of training camp with a high ankle sprain, and he had a productive 12 games: 45 receptions, 561 yards and six touchdowns, and two touchdowns on punt returns. It is that latter facet — special teams — that has some concerned. Bryant injured his ankle on a kickoff, and though he’s quickly becoming one of the team’s offensive stars, Garrett — speaking like a man who believed he would be the coach in 2011 — said the Cowboys can’t afford to take Bryant’s explosiveness out of the return game.
