Brandon Meriweather saw decent playing time in Week One, rotating in at free safety for a few series in the second half only about a week after joining the team. We were hearing that he was on the fast track to cracking the starting lineup, and Chris Harris' hamstring injury could speed up that process even more. Chicago beat out other interested teams for Meriweather's services when he hit the open market earlier this month after roster cutdowns. They paid him a $1 million bonus and $2.25 million base salary on a one-year deal. That is a significant boost from the $1.65 million he was in line to make this season before the Patriots cut him. The Bears didn't sign him to take anyone's starting job, but they certainly viewed him as more than just an insurance policy. With Harris missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, Major Wright could slide to strong safety to clear a spot for Meriweather in the starting lineup vs. the Saints.
