Week Six fantasy tips: TEs

Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez is back and healthy for New England, and we saw last Sunday what that means to the offense, as he led the team with nine targets, going 5-56-0, even though he may not have been at 100 percent. Hernandez, despite the presence of Rob Gronkowski, proved he should be a start every week and could have a good game against a below-average Dallas secondary that is allowing 61.3 yards but no TDs to the position. He makes a No. 1 fantasy tight end this week based on how strong the Patriots' passing attack is.

Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham has caught TDs in consecutive games and now ranks second on the club in targets (35) and is tied for the team lead in TD catches (three). He has a three-game average of 7.3 targets for 4.3 receptions, 47.3 yards and 0.7 TDs per game. He's a low-end No. 1 or flex this week as the Colts are allowing 43 yards and 0.3 TDs per week to the TE position.

He's not as big a part of the passing game as he once was, but Steelers TE Heath Miller has made the most of his opportunities this season, catching 15-of-21 passes thrown his way. Miller hauled in his first TD of the season in Week Five when he caught 3-46-1 vs. the Titans. As a bye-week or injury fill-in starter, Miller has value, starting this week against a Jaguars defense that is stout but struggles against opposing tight ends, allowing 87.8 yards and one TD per game.

One of the Dolphins' biggest Achilles' heels last season was covering opposing tight ends, and that hasn't changed, which should be good news for Dustin Keller owners. Keller leads the Jets in receptions and receiving yards and went 6-98-2 against Miami in the teams' first meeting last season. Despite his paltry two-game average of five targets, 1.5 receptions, 9.5 yards and no touchdowns, the Dolphins' safeties and inside linebackers have really been struggling, allowing 50.3 yards and 0.3 TDs per game over their last three to opposing tight ends. Keller could post big numbers and makes a fine No. 1 or flex position player this week.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has talked a lot this week about Cowboys TE Jason Witten and how dangerous he is. Considering how the Patriots have shut down other top tight ends, such as the Chargers' Antonio Gates in Week Two and the Jets' Dustin Keller last week, it might be worth looking at other options for your starter. It's tough to bench Witten, but it makes sense considering that WRs Dez Bryant and Miles Austin appear fully healthy and ready to go in this one. Over the last three games, Witten is averaging 11 targets for seven receptions, 85.3 yards and 0.3 TDs while the Patriots are holding tight ends to only 26.3 yards and 0.3 TDs. In the end, unless you have another top-tier tight end, you're better off starting Witten as he's QB Tony Romo's favorite weapon. Witten makes a low-end No. 1 with minimal upside this week.

Redskins TE Chris Cooley has been bothered by his knee injury in practice this week (he was limited on Wednesday), and with FB Darrel Young still out, it appears Cooley could be restricted to mainly blocking duties against the Eagles. It's tough to sit anyone against the Eagles' defense these days, but Cooley's a nonfactor anyway with Fred Davis starting and Cooley averaging only three targets for 1.8 receptions, 16.5 yards and no TDs.

Don't look now, but Delanie Walker, the Niners' No. 2 tight end in a wide receiver's body, could be a fantasy sleeper worth considering. With No. 2 WR Joshua Morgan out for the season (broken leg), daily team observers believe the Niners will go with more two-TE sets featuring Davis and Walker. Walker is a nightmare matchup for linebackers with his speed and size (6-0, 242). This was in evidence on a 29-yard TD pass in Week Two, when he beat Cowboys LB Anthony Spencer, and on his 26-yard TD last week, when he beat Bucs LB Dekoda Wilson. In two seasons as a wide receiver at Central Missouri State, Walker had 113 catches for 1,347 yards.  Right now he's averaging three targets for two receptions, 25.5 yards and 0.5 TDs, making him a watch-list player, especially as he has two TDs in the last four weeks.
