Jaguars CB Mathis out for the season with torn ACL

Jaguars CB Rashean Mathis has a torn ACL and will be placed on injured reserve, Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Mathis suffered the injury during the second quarter of Jacksonville's Week 10 victory over the Colts. According to Ganguli, it was a non-contact injury, as Mathis' knee just turned the wrong way when he planted his foot in the ground while running. Mathis had to be helped off the field by teammates and was carted into the locker room.

The nine-year vet, who is in the final year of his contract, has been a fixture on the Jaguars' defense since being drafted in 2003. This season he has one interception and four passes defensed.

The way we see it

Jacksonville's secondary will need to replace their top corner and one of their smartest defenders. It is expected that Will Middleton will replace Mathis in the starting lineup.
