Perhaps we should not be surprised that England failed to beat a distinctly average USA team. After all, it is not the first international tournament where England has got off to a slow start in the first game. There was no bobble so it was not because of the pitch or the ball. Green delivered a schoolboy error on the World football stage and that is all there is to it. He is a decent Premiership keeper but at this level he looks exposed.Sadly, his team mates were unable to come to his rescue. Emile Heskey has not played much for club or country yet was reinstated. This meant he was able to further his woeful goal scoring record. Peter Crouch, who had scored 21 goals in 39 games for his country was left to sit on the substitute?s bench for 80 minutes.
