Poll Friday: Patriots at Bills?

We have another big game in the AFC East this weekend. That leads us to our latest "Poll Friday" question: Who will win Sunday's matchup between the New England Patriots (1-2) and Buffalo Bills (2-1)? This game has huge implications in the division. It's a chance for the Bills to make their mark and the Patriots to get back in the hunt. Will Buffalo prevail? The Bills beat the Patriots last season at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Buffalo spent the entire offseason building a team to beat New England.

Instant Analysis: Alabama 33 Ole Miss 14

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama trailed for the first time all season when Ole Miss scored a touchdown early in the second quarter, but the Crimson Tide answered with two quick scores and held off the Rebels to win 33-14 Saturday night. The offense looked efficient but not outstanding. The Tide never hit on the big play they’ve become accustomed to this season. Still, it was a coming-out party for freshman wide receiver Amari Cooper, and quarterback AJ McCarron was sharp yet again for the Tide.

Ash's growth, poise key Texas' road rally

STILLWATER, Okla. -- This time, there was no time for David Ash to lean on his running game. A go-ahead touchdown drive with seven runs and two short passes didn't put Texas ahead for long enough, and down two points, Texas had 2 minutes, 34 seconds to become the first team to win in Stillwater since Oklahoma won a Big 12 South title at Boone Pickens Stadium in 2010. The Longhorns sideline wasn't lacking for confidence in the eventual 41-36 victory over Oklahoma State that sent Texas to 4-0 and, most likely, into the top 10.

AccuScore: 49ers edge Jets

The first-place New York Jets (2-1) have a big game coming up Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers (2-1). In one of the closest AccuScore projections you will ever see, San Francisco edges the Jets by winning 51 percent of the simulations. New York still has a good chance to beat San Francisco despite the loss of cornerback Darrelle Revis for the season, according to AccuScore. The Jets are at home for the next three weeks and need to take advantage.

Instant analysis: Nebraska 30, Wisconsin 27

LINCOLN, Neb -- Nebraska mounted a furious comeback, rallying from 10 down at halftime and 17 in the third quarter to beat Wisconsin 30-27 and avenge an ugly defeat last year. Here are some quick thoughts: It was over when: Nebraska stuffed Montee Ball and forced a fumble on fourth-and-1 from the Badgers’ 49-yard line with one minute to play. Wisconsin, with Danny O’Brien back in charge at quarterback in place of Joel Stave, mounted a final drive after blowing a 17-point lead, but it fell short after officials overturned a first-down spot on an O’Brien-to-Jordan Fredrick completion before Ball’s fumble.

Brandt Snedeker enjoyed the 18th hole a bit more on Saturday. After his errant tee shot led to a last-hole defeat on Friday, Snedeker and Jim Furyk combined to hold off Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy, the world’s top-ranked player, on a nerve-wracking closing hole.

SEC mailbag: Florida a BCS buster?

It's time to take some questions as we enter the weekend: Robert in Salt Lake City writes: How much of a role does UF have in determining who plays for the national title? Will possibly knocking off FSU put someone in it, or will FSU be on the outside looking in at that point? Edward Aschoff: The Gators could be a real BCS buster for a few teams. For starters, Florida hosts LSU next week and a Gator win could throw a wrench in the Tigers' plans for a return to the national championship.

AFC East injury updates

There were several key injuries in the AFC East last week that will impact this weekend's games. Here are the latest updates from around the division: Buffalo Bills: Both running backs Fred Jackson (knee) and C.J. Spiller (shoulder) are listed as questionable. Jackson is expected to play Sunday against the Patriots, according to head coach Chan Gailey. But Spiller is making progress, as well, and had limited participation the past two days. Cornerback and dangerous return specialist Leodis McKelvin (groin) is probable.

The Patriots (1-2) are still elite

The New England Patriots have a losing record for the first time in nine years. Their head coach is in hot water with the NFL for grabbing an official, there are key injuries on offense and the Patriots have a tough road game Sunday against the Buffalo Bills (2-1). Stick a fork in the Patriots. They're done, right? Not so fast. The Patriots are still elite. They just don't have the record to show for it after three games. But do not be fooled by the standings in September.

AFC East Stock Watch

Let's see who's stock is rising and falling in the AFC East. Falling 1. New York Jets secondary: The stock of New York’s defensive backs took a huge blow with the season-ending injury to Darrelle Revis. This changes the way New York has to play defense, particularly on the back end. The Jets will play less man-to-man defense and a lot more zone. Revis also patched up the fact that New York’s safeties aren’t good in coverage. Opponents will test the Jets’ secondary, starting with Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
