Well that didn't take too long.
Less than 24 hours after he was released, the Packers have re-signed LB A.J. Hawk, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. The newspaper cites an e-mail sent by the linebacker's agent at 1:34 Thursday morning that read, "We're putting the finishing touches on AJ signing with GB."
While the terms of the new contract have not been released, it is expected to be for far less than the $10.5 million Hawk was owed on the original contract and will be a multiyear deal.
The way we see it
Packers GM Ted Thompson said Wednesday in a statement that he was hopeful that Hawk would continue to be on the team, and sure enough, it appears that will be the case. Hawk has been a consistent player for Green Bay and was important in their Super Bowl run, filling in for the injured Nick Barnett as the defensive signalcaller in the nickel and helping the team rank fifth in the NFL in yards allowed during the regular season.
