Chiefs in search of relief for Bowe

Last season, Chiefs wide receivers caught a mere 139 passes, ranking them in the bottom quarter of the league in that category. WR Dwayne Bowe had 72 catches, far more than the No. 2 wideout, veteran Chris Chambers, who had 22. Suffice to say when opponents shut down Bowe, as the Ravens did in the AFC wild-card game when they held him without a catch, the Kansas City air attack stalled. To counter that, the team is expected to make drafting a playmaking wideout a priority. There is a large drop-off after the top two receivers in this year's WR class, so GM Scott Pioli likely will wait until the second or third day of the draft before he addresses this need. Bowe is a big, physical target, and Dexter McCluster is a downfield burner, so the team lacks a possession slot receiver. Players such as Kentucky's Randall Cobb, who should go off the board in the second round, or Indiana's Tandon Doss, a likely third-round pick, could help take the pressure off Bowe and give QB Matt Cassel another dependable target.
