Patriots cut LB Brown, seven others

The Patriots began roster cuts on Friday, releasing eight players, including LB Ricky Brown.

The Pats also released DL Darryl Richard, OL Jonathan Compas, and first-year players TE Carson Butler and WR Buddy Farnham.

The undrafted rookies released by New England Friday were RB Richard Medlin, OL Mike Berry and OL Corey Woods.

The Patriots signed Brown, who spent the past five seasons with the Raiders, during free agency. He had seven tackles in Thursday night's preseason finale.

Richard, a seventh-round pick by the Patriots in 2009, has not played a regular-season game but had three sacks this preseason.
