Backup duty suiting Falcons DT Jerry

Third-year veteran DT Peria Jerry started the first four games of the season, but he has been coming off the bench, rotating in behind starters Corey Peters and Jonathan Babineaux since Week Five. The team was hoping that Jerry, nearly two years removed from a leg injury that ended his rookie season after two games, would show more explosiveness this season. He did show some burst in Week Two against the Eagles, forcing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown and recording two QB hits. He has only two QB hits in the eight games since then, though, and has yet to record a sack this season. In 28 career games, Jerry has two sacks, one pass defensed and one forced fumble. That's not the production the Falcons had in mind when they drafted him 24th overall in 2009. Jerry has been serviceable this season, but Peters is establishing himself as a very disruptive player, and Jerry is firmly entrenched as his backup.
