Early Thursday afternoon, the Houson Texans were worried about losing their best special teams player for the season to a knee injury.By late afternoon, those fears were reality. At the same time, they had picked up a veteran cornerback.
Dominique Barber, a veteran safety Texans coach Gary Kubiak called the team's most valuable special teams player, was placed on injured reserve Thursday afternoon after underdoing arthroscopic knee surgery that morning. He sustained the injury in practice Wednesday.
The Texans filled his roster spot with veteran cornerback Jason Allen, claimed off waivers from the Miami Dolphins.
Allen, a fifth-year veteran and a first-round selection by Tennessee in the 2006 NFL Draft, was waived by the Dolphins earlier this week after Miami signed veteran cornerback Al Harris. Allen started seven games for Miami this season and had three interceptions.
Earlier in the day, Kubiak addressed Barber's injury.
