Draft countdown: Pick No. 25

Overview: The 25th pick has been hit or miss over the years. Broncos QB Tim Tebow remains a question mark, while guys like former Eagles WR Freddie Mitchell turned out to be definite busts. But with a former Super Bowl MVP in the mix, PFW found that the No. 25 pick, which is held by the Seahawks this year, can go in a lot of different directions:

2010: Broncos select Florida QB Tim Tebow
The jury is still out on Tebow, although he did exceed expectations when he got the chance to start the final three games of the season for the Broncos. He finished with an 82.1 passer rating, throwing five TD passes and rushing for six more.

2009: Dolphins select Illinois TE Vontae Davis
Although Davis saw his interception total drop from four to one in '10, he still took a big step forward. He started in 15-of-16 games for the Dolphins and was called the best cornerback nobody has ever heard of by Brett Favre.

2008: Cowboys select South Florida CB Mike Jenkins
Jenkins struggled his rookie year but took a big step forward in '09. He recorded 19 pass deflections and five interceptions that season, but seemed to take a step backward last year. He has the ability to be effective but has displayed sloppy technique at times.

2007: Panthers select Miami (Fla.) LB Jon Beason
Beason bounced around at different linebacker positions last season, but it was evident that middle linebacker suits him best. Beason has had 120-plus tackles every season of his career and is among the league's elite at his position.

2006: Steelers select Ohio State WR Santonio Holmes
In his first season with the Jets, the former Super Bowl MVP recorded 52-746-6 in just 12 games after being suspended for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. His off-the-field troubles led the Steelers to trade him to the Jets last April. On the field, his explosiveness and big-play ability has set him apart from other wideouts.

2005: Redskins select Auburn QB Jason Campbell
Campbell has flashed starting-QB ability at times during his career but never has turned into a consistent signalcaller. He went through multiple offensive coordinators in college and with the Redskins, which got his career off on the wrong foot.

2004: Packers select Arkansas CB Ahmad Carroll
Carroll was picked on often and never got much of a chance following his first two seasons in the league. He started every game for Green Bay in '05, but was not very effective. He played with the Jets in 2008-09 and was out of the league last season.

2003: Giants select Miami (Fla.) DT William Joseph
Joseph was never able to become an elite tackle. He remained in New York for five seasons, compiling 72 tackles and seven sacks in that time. He joined the Raiders in '08 but didn't contribute much before retiring following the '09 season.

2002: Saints select Georgia DE Charles Grant
Grant had a good run in New Orleans, recording 423 tackles and 47 sacks in his eight seasons with the team. He struggled with conditioning at times but did a lot of good things for the team during his career.

2001: Eagles select UCLA WR Freddie Mitchell
Fred-Ex always will be better known for his mouth more than his hands. Mitchell lasted just four years in the NFL and never surpassed 498 receiving yards in a season.
