Like several other quarterbacks around the league, Chiefs QB Matt Cassel has been organizing offseason workouts for his teammates during the lockout, gathering players at a local high school. Now in his third season as the team's signalcaller, Cassel appears to becoming more comfortable in his role as the face of not only the offense but also the entire team. We hear his maturation to leader began a year ago, when he missed only one game following an emergency appendectomy. It was also in 2010 that head coach Todd Haley privately challenged Cassel about throws made and plays called. Cassel became more and more comfortable defending his play while also taking it upon himself to be more assertive in the huddle and in meetings, becoming more like his former teammate, Tom Brady. That take-charge attitude has spilled onto the field, even a high school one. The voluntarily workouts have been intense, as the QB wants to go from being a Brady-type leader to putting up Brady-type statistics once the lockout is over.
