The 49ers activated WR Michael Crabtree from the physically-unable-to-perform list, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.
Crabtree has been out with a left foot injury since training camp began. According to reports, Crabtree fractured his left foot at a player-organized workout on June 6. He had surgery on the foot before camp.
This is the third preseason the former first-round pick has missed in his short career. In 16 starts last season, Crabtree had 55 catches for 741 yards and six scores.
Crabtree caught balls at Monday's practice before GM Trent Baalke stopped it because Crabtree was technically still on the PUP list.
The Niners added WR Braylon Edwards this offseason to complement Crabtree.
The way we see it
Crabtree should quickly make his way back to the No. 1 WR spot. Ted Ginn and Joshua Morgan have been starting in his absence, with Edwards displaying flashes on the outside looking in.
