Needing to spark a pass rush that is missing OLBs Shaun Phillips and Larry English, the Chargers signed free-agent OLB Everette Brown and released DE Ogemdi Nwagbuo.
Brown, a second-round pick of the Panthers in 2009, played defensive end during his two seasons in Carolina but never found success. He registered just six total sacks in two seasons before being cut by the team in training camp.
Brown will play standing up in San Diego, which he has yet to do as a pro. The Chargers have struggled to rush the passer lately. Phillips missed the team's Week Eight matchup with the Chiefs because of a foot injury and is an unknown for next Sunday's game against the Packers. English was placed on I.R. last week because of a broken foot.
Nwagbuo made very little contribution in four games this season for the Chargers. He was signed following Week One injuries to DEs Luis Castillo and Jacques Cesaire.
The Chargers also signed WR Bryan Walters, who had been released by the team on Monday, to their practice squad.
