Reports: Hillis not on field for early portion of practice

Browns RB Peyton Hillis, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, missed the portion of practice open to media on Wednesday, multiple media outlets reported.

"He'll be out there, we'll just have to see," Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said earlier Wednesday about Hillis' ability to practice Wednesday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Shurmur added, according to the Beacon Journal, "It's really hard for me to say right now until he gets out there and gets going. He's been running around, but the football stuff is different."

If Hillis can't play on Sunday at Houston, Chris Ogbonnaya is likely to start at tailback. The Browns' second-string running back, Montario Hardesty, has a calf injury likely to keep him out on Sunday.

The way we see it

We'll have a better idea of Hillis' status for Sunday when the Browns file their daily injury reports and Shurmur meets with the media on Thursday, but the fact he wasn't present early at practice on Wednesday surely isn't a positive sign for his availability on Sunday. If Hillis is out on Sunday, he will have missed half of Cleveland's games because of injury or illness.
