49ers place S Taylor on I.R.

The 49ers placed S Curtis Taylor on the season-ending injured reserve list on Monday. Taylor suffered a torn quadriceps muscle in the Niners' loss to the Eagles in Week Five.

To replace Taylor, the 49ers promoted S Chris Maragos from the practice squad. Maragos spent the first six games of the season on the 49ers practice squad after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2010.

Taylor played in five games this season, recording three tackles.

The way we see it

The 49ers have undergone considerable turnover at safety lately following the walkout and subsequent release of starting SS Michael Lewis. Rookie Taylor Mays was forced into the lineup to replace Lewis, and second-year S C.J. Spillman was acquired on waivers from San Diego last Tuesday. Although Taylor hadn't played a big role before his injury, the continuing turnover at the position certainly won't benefit the 49ers.
