Proviso West's Prater impresses USC coach

The Orange County Register reports: During USC's bye-week, a couple of freshman have coach coach Lane Kiffin's eye. One is receiver Proviso West's Kyle Prater, a spring standout Kiffin elected to redshirt because of a variety of leg injuries.

"If you can have a player redshirting like (tailback D.J. Morgan) and Kyle Prater, that's pretty exciting to look at. It's almost as if they're part of the next year's (recruiting) class."

Kiffin doesn't plan to play Prater, but the 6-foot-5 wideout showed he might be ready to play by leaping over a pile of blocking pads after making a sideline catch.
