Jaguars trade S Smith to Packers; sign CB Jackson

The Jaguars announced Monday that they have finalized a trade with the Packers, sending S Anthony Smith to Green Bay in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. The Jags also signed CB Chevis Jackson.

Jackson was a third-round draft pick of the Falcons in 2008. In three seasons, he has 64 tackles, one interception and seven passes defensed.

The way we see it

The Jaguars' decision to part ways with Smith, a starter, is curious, considering safety is the weakest position on the roster. The club must be comfortable that the drop-off from Smith to backup Courtney Greene is not a big one — Greene started two games while Smith was dealing with a foot injury earlier this season.

Jackson adds depth for the Jaguars as another cover-2 corner.
