The Giants likely will place a call to WR Plaxico Burress, whose jail sentence is coming to an end soon, about playing for the team again. Whether that happens remains to be seen, and the Giants do have three young receivers they like in Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith and Mario Manningham. But Smith is coming off a knee injury and is set to hit free agency, so his place is by no means set. QB Eli Manning gave his seal of approval to going after Burress again, and GM Jerry Reese said the team would do its homework on the matter. Long shot? Perhaps, but the Giants of all teams know the value of putting together a deep roster and also giving good players opportunities to make the club. The Giants quietly believe they could have a Super Bowl-caliber roster next season, so why not add a receiver of Burress' talent, even if he has been away from the game for two-plus years?
