There wasn't only one reason why the Jets lost the AFC championship game to the Steelers, as a variety of factors contributed to the team's performance, especially in the first half of the game. One that stood out was how flat New York was early on, especially in the defensive front seven. That might have been due to the wear and tear that playing 19 games in a 20-week span had on a veteran group of linemen and pass rushers, an issue the team wants to correct next season by getting younger. DE Shaun Ellis, who turns 34 in June, and OLB Jason Taylor, 36, are each free agents this offseason, and it would be a surprise if both returned. Ellis is the more likely of the two to be brought back, though his role on the team might decrease. DE Marcus Dixon, a street free agent who saw his first NFL action in 2010 but played in only three games, is likely to see a major increase in playing time in ’11.
