Reggie Bush addressed his future when he spoke with reporters at his youth football camp at Tulane University on Saturday, but his status with the Saints remains uncertain.
It was well known heading into the offseason that he would need to accept a cut from the $11.8 million salary he's due in 2011 stay with the team, and Bush seemed to indicate he was ready to move on with a tweet on draft night. Bush tweeted, "It's been fun New Orleans" after the Saints selected RB Mark Ingram in the first round.
Bush said he probably should not have made that tweet and offered clarification on his view Saturday.
"(The) Saints are my first and foremost choice," Bush said. "To be here, I would love to retire here if possible."
Bush also addressed his contract and the negotiations that will have to take place in order for him to extend his career with the team.
"That's something that me, my agent and the Saints have to collectively come together and talk about and just come to a meeting point, a happy medium," Bush said. "Obviously there's going to have to be some type of pay cut, some type of renegotiation. We're going to do the best we can to come to a happy medium, a meeting point and hopefully I'll be able to play six, seven, eight, 10 more years."
While Saints fans hoping to see Bush return will be much happier with his comments Saturday, the toned-down rhetoric doesn't mean he and the team will arrive at the "happy medium" he referenced. The Saints and Bush's representatives are unable to negotiate during the lockout and it's far from certain that he'll be wearing a Saints uniform when football resumes.
