The Cowboys waived RB Tashard Choice on Saturday to make room on the 53-man roster for rookie OLB Bruce Carter, who has been on the non-football injury list.
Choice was rumored to be on the cutting block earlier this season after the team drafted RB DeMarco Murray. Choice has one start in six games this season and has rushed for 75 yards on 28 carries (2.7-yard average).
Choice played in all 16 games each of the last three seasons. He had 472 rushing yards in 2008. Murray rushed for a franchise-record 253 yards last week.
According to ESPN Dallas, if Choice clears waivers, the team will reach an injury settlement with him. Choice suffered a shoulder injury in last week's win over the Rams.
RB Felix Jones remains out with an ankle injury, leaving the Cowboys with Murray and rookie Phillip Tanner in the backfield for Sunday night's game against the Eagles.
Carter suffered a season-ending knee injury last November during his senior season with North Carolina. He is expected to see some time on special teams and at inside linebacker.
