Report: Fitzpatrick agrees to new deal with Bills

After weeks of negotiations, the Bills and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick finally have agreed on a contract extension. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the two sides will sign a six-year, $59 million contract, with $24 million guaranteed.

Fitzpatrick, a former seventh-round pick, has found success in Buffalo under head coach Chan Gailey. Over the past two seasons, he has started 19 games and thrown 35 touchdown passes. This season, he has the Bills in contention for a playoff spot.

With Fitzpatrick now signed, the Bills can turn their attention to two other offensive stars. WR Stevie Johnson and RB Fred Jackson, both key parts to the Buffalo attack, are also looking for new deals. It is expected Johnson's deal will come first.

The $9.8 million per-season average of the contract does not make Fitzpatrick one of the league's best-paid QBs along the lines of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, but is fairly close to the deals signed by Matt Schaub, Jay Cutler and Tony Romo.
