Raiders head coach Hue Jackson made the trade for QB Carson Palmer to improve the team's chances of making the playoffs this season, but according to a team insider, Jackson is fooling himself if he thinks Palmer will make a difference in achieving that goal.
The quarterback looked awful in his first game with the team, throwing three second-half interceptions in a Week Seven loss to the Chiefs, and he admitted afterward that he knew just a small fraction of the playbook. Even with a bye week in which to learn more of the offense, the team will still be limited in the plays it can run with Palmer under center until he has a full grasp of Jackson's system. Without a training camp and extensive practices to work out with his receivers and offensive line, timing and communication are bound to be issues the remainder of the year.
"If Carson is looking good by the end of the year, I'll be stunned," the insider said.
