Browns CB Haden has knee strain

The Browns came out of the Week Four loss to Tennessee with some injury and medical concerns, with CB Joe Haden (knee) and C Alex Mack (appendicitis) at the head of the list.

Haden, who's off to a very good start in his second NFL season, suffered a knee sprain vs. the Titans, head coach Pat Shurmur said Monday.

"He won't practice tomorrow, and we'll just have to see as we move forward how significant it is," Shurmur said Monday. "At this point, I don't know anything. There's a chance he may miss some time, but I don't know. I don't know that yet. We'll see, being that our next game is not for a couple weeks."

The Browns have their bye this week and don't play until Oct. 16, when they visit Oakland.

Also, C Alex Mack was to have his appendix removed Monday, Shurmur said.

In other Browns injury news, WR Joshua Cribbs suffered a knee sprain Sunday, which Shurmur said is "slight."

The way we see it

The bye comes at a good time for Cleveland. Haden, who has played like one of the AFC top cornerbacks this season, is essential to the secondary. Mack, who made the Pro Bowl a season ago, is a key part of the offensive line. And Cribbs, who was hampered by a groin injury in Week Three, is one of the game's top returners.
