Double dose of Week 16 letdown in Jags? backfield

With a bum knee keeping Maurice Jones-Drew out of the biggest fantasy week of the season, backup Rashad Jennings was all set to run wild over the Redskins Sunday. Of course, things don't always play out as expected.

While Jennings had been playing very well in a change-of-pace role lately and was going against a Washington run defense that rates among the league's worst, he failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity. The second-year back ran for just 32 yards on 15 carries in an overtime defeat, costing many an owner in the process.

Jennings is a perfect example of how not all No. 2 RBs are created equal. While some guys can step right in and produce similar numbers to the starter, other backs are not cut out to handle a full complement of carries. Jennings did great picking up big chunks of yardage against defenses that were worn down by M.J.D., but when he had to take on a fresh unit, he was nowhere near as effective.

As for those wondering what this situation will look like in Week 17, only time will tell. The Jags still have a shot at winning the AFC South, so they won't be holding anything back against the Texans. That means Jones-Drew is likely to give it a go as long as the swelling in his knee subsides. Keep an eye on his status as the week rolls on.
