As Sam Bradford Soars, Rams Owe Bit of Thanks to Jake Locker

It's December, the holidays are close upon us and when the St. Louis Rams start putting together their Christmas card list, they might slip one to Jake Locker.

Locker is the quarterback at the University of Washington, who at this time last year was a junior contemplating coming out for the NFL Draft.

If he had, he certainly would have been one of the top three quarterbacks selected -- and there were some who liked him to be taken No. 1, even over 2008 Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford of Oklahoma.

It was not a decision the St. Louis Rams ever had to make. Locker opted to return to the Huskies, and that made the Rams' choice of Bradford all the easier. To be sure, the Rams might have taken Bradford anyway, but even so, placing a present under the tree with Locker's name on it wouldn't be amiss.
