The Browns placed OLB Scott Fujita and CB Eric Wright on injured reserve and signed practice-squad NT Travis Ivey and free-agent LB Steve Octavien to fill the open spots on the roster, the team announced Tuesday.
Fujita started nine games, notching 51 tackles, 3½ sacks and two forced fumbles. His finest game of the season came in the upset of the Saints in Week Seven when Fujita, who had an integral role in preparing the Browns for his former team's offense, notched 11 tackles and a sack and recorded his lone interception of the season. Fujita suffered a knee injury in Week 10 vs. the Jets and hadn't played since.
Wright, who suffered a knee injury in the Browns' loss to Cincinnati Sunday, appeared in 13 games, starting 10. He recorded 42 tackles and had one interception. Wright lost his starting job to rookie Joe Haden at left cornerback several weeks ago.
Ivey, 24, has been on the Browns' practice squad since September.
Octavien, 26, played with Dallas in 2008 and '09.
The Browns also signed FB Tyler Cutts, who played in the UFL with the Sacramento Mountain Lions in 2010, to their practice squad.
The way we see it
Fujita was one of the Browns' more valuable defensive players and was a very good addition in free agency last offseason. Jason Trusnik has moved into his spot in the lineup. Wright's absence weakens the Browns' secondary depth; Mike Adams could get more playing time with Wright out.
