The Niners gave it their all for three quarters on a cold afternoon at Lambeau Field in which occasional snow flurries could be seen fluttering in the wind. But they appeared to run out of gas in the fourth quarter while the Packers — led by rookie RB James Starks in his first game action this season — focused on running out the clock in what turned out to be a relatively easy 34-16 victory.
The only scoring in a mostly uneventful final period were a pair of field goals by Green Bay’s Mason Crosby, as the Packers pushed their record to 8-4, allowing them to stay one game behind the Bears, who fought back against the Lions, in the NFC North.
Niners TE Vernon Davis proved pesky with over 120 yards receiving, but the Niners’ passing game couldn’t keep up with the Packers through the air, as Greg Jennings in particular wreaked havoc on a suspect San Francisco secondary.
On a not so good note, Packers DE Cullen Jenkins, who had a big day with two sacks, limped off the field with time winding down with what looked like a foot injury.
